We all heard of Fischerspooner and Peaches. And because of someone, these artists has been know because of a huge electronic music festival created by the one and only... Larry Tee.
Electransmission : Can you describe Larry Tee?
Larry: Well, larry tee is a renegade, electronic musicmaker and DJ that specializes in dance music that has another context; rock and roll attittude, performance, humor, or great memorable melodies.
Electransmission: When and how did your passion for electronic music started?
Larry: My passion has always been music, but during the disco era, i fell in love electronic artists like Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder, then the new wave happened and i was going for it; Depeche Mode, New Order...I loved it.
Electransmission: You collaborated with a lot of artists as Amanda Lepore, Princess Superstar and you helped launch the career of such artists are Fischerspooner, RuPaul, Peaches, Scissors Sisters and more. After all, you are an icon of the Electroclash and an influence for many. But you, who are YOUR influences and idols?
Larry: My idols include the B-52s, panda bear, elton john, green velvet, blonde redhead, donna summer, rufus wainright, the hidden cameras... All kinds of stuff.
Electransmission: A big part of your history comes from your experience in the Club Kids scene. What are your best memories of this?
Larry: I guess doing the "Hot Body" contest at Disco 2000, where 10 people would get totally naked for a chance to win $50 was pretty fun... And i got high a lot at that time. I am glad i m clean now for 14 years and wish i could remember more about that time.
Electransmission: You created the tearm Electroclash in the early 2000’s. What was the electroclash music for you?
Larry: Electroclash was electro music that combines the ideas from performance art with the spirit of rock n roll. I liked the idea that the acts were all different and dressed different and had different ideas... Unlike indie rock or pop which can get pretty formulaic!
Electransmission: In your career, you had the chance to play at famous venues as ROXY (NYC), Palladium and Twilo. Is there any places you would love to play?
Larry: Well, i would love to play Ibiza (weird i never have), Coachella and ULTRA music festival in America... and at the white house! LOL.. I love Obama!
Electransmission: What kind of place and crowd you like the most?
Larry: I like a mixed crowd that is coming to hear the music and the best places for that crowd for me is in Australia and Brazil! I also have a lot of freedom to play what i like here in London, too!
Electransmission: How do you find the music industry these days?
Larry: I have never in my entire career worked for the recording industry, though my records come out on ULTRA, the biggest in America. If i worried about what the record labels and industry wanted, i wouldnt make the kind of music that has made me somewhat influential. I love the music industry.
Electransmission: Finally, what are your future projects?
Larry: I am working on my new album for ULTRA, writing for my magazine CARNAGE, running my party Super Techno Party Machine at EAST BLOC in London and getting my next single CHARLIE, which is inspired by lady gaga's hair designer, Charlie Le Mindu ready for release. We are making a video with nothing but DOGS in WIGS; get ready for that!
